I will openly and aggressively admit to anyone who asks that
yes, I’m an awards show junkie. I love them. Always have. I have so many great
memories of watching various awards shows with my mom – dissecting the fashion,
analyzing acceptance speeches and being critical of the hosts.
She would’ve loved Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s three year run
hosting the Golden Globes. I mean, seriously, can they host all the things?
However, I wasn’t digging their red carpet looks this year.
They’re both so beautiful with killer figures and these dresses just don’t do
much for them. Amy’s Stella McCartney is a gorgeous color, but all that elastic
at the waist reminds me of pants a 90 year-old woman would wear. And I just
don’t really get Tina’s Antonio Berardi tea-length dress at all.

Ok, Emma Stone is, in my mind, a yes. I’m seeing some
back-and-forth about this Lanvin jumpsuit, but I think it’s a gorgeous
option.

The fit is impeccable – so glamorous and cool. Her hair is
doing what I wish I could make mine do, and the makeup is flawless.
I adore Julianne Moore, and Julianne Moore in Givenchy by
Ricardo Tisci is even better. I wish she’d pulled her hair up or back or
something; it looks kind of unfinished. But I barely even care because that
ombre dress and those feathers are wonderful.

Ahhh, Amy Adams. I love you and I want to love all of this.
Yes, the dress (Atelier Versace) is a lovely color and yes, it’s tailored to
perfection. It’s the hair. I feel like she’s always doing the “Old Hollywood
Glamour” hair and it’s not working tonight. To be fair, when I saw her, she was
accepting her award and was clearly caught off guard. As she said during her
speech, she didn’t even think to reapply her lip gloss! Her hair looked a little flat though.

To be fair again, I think I maybe have a slight chip on my
shoulder where Amy Adams is concerned. My husband has a not-so-secret thing for
her… I don’t exactly think he’s going to walk out the door, but she feels much
more approachable than anyone else he likes. I don’t think Nicole Kidman is
ever going to come knocking, but Amy Adams seems like she could kick-it
Cincinnati-style so I’m keeping my eye on her.
Lupita Nyong’o’s dress is another one that I’m seeing mixed
reviews on. This Giambattista Valli dress looks a little bulky here, but when
she was on stage presenting, it looked incredible.

J.Lo in Zuhair Murad. We get it. You’re aging in reverse.
Put them away.

If you’re going for “Old Hollywood Glamour,” look to Jessica
Chastain.

This Versace dress is flattering to her figure and sets off
her hair so nicely.
Felicity Huffman just gets better and better. I loved her
fifteen years ago or however long it was when she was on Sports Night. Her
Lorena Sarbu dress is on-trend and age-appropriate. You don’t have to be 20 to
wear cutouts.

There were plenty of other interesting looks, but I’m
starting to feel a little meh about being critical. Also, my husband just
brought me beer and cheesecake and turned on Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
